In order for management to ensure that it is aware of all situations where our plants, or those of our external sewing contractors, are not observing local labour laws or the above Codes of Conduct, we support operating management with internal and external monitoring. To this end, we have retained the services of Verité, an internationally respected training and monitoring organization, to evaluate our existing practices, to make recommendations for improvement, to build knowledge and skills among our management and employees, and to conduct independent audits of our facilities.
|
Verité is conducting a comprehensive evaluation of Gildan's current internal management systems to verify compliance with the labour codes to which the Company adheres to determine the nature and effectiveness of existing practices and identify areas of improvement. Based on this analysis, Verité will be making recommendations to augment the scope and quality of our existing social compliance program, on program design, which will include staff roles and responsibilities, as well as on needs for training, internal reporting, and reference materials.
Verité is also undertaking a series of independent, unannounced social compliance audits that will evaluate our practices and performance, first at every Gildan-owned facility, then at all contractor facilities. They will evaluate our practices in areas such as forced and child labour, discrimination, freedom of association, discipline, pay, working hours, and health and safety. Based on what they find, Verité will make recommendations for remedial actions and changes that will ensure that areas of non-compliance are not repeated.

Verité will also be working with Gildan to develop and implement a comprehensive social compliance training program based on the initial assessment, including workshops on compliance codes, operating practices, internal monitoring and reporting, and remediation protocols. Verité will also continue its training program for workers and supervisors at our Honduras facilities in the areas of freedom of association and building a positive working environment.
